NB: This is part of a series on Romantic Healthcare, setting out the foundational ideas of a system of healthcare based on vital nature and vital science. Each can be read independently, though it is recommended to read the introductory article, 'What If You Gave a Revolution and No One Came', first. Some articles refer to previous ones, so this can guide you to go and read these as well, either before or after the article you are on.
Romantic Healthcare constitutes a revolution against the Old Order. It is not one on the model of the French Revolution, which only replaced a corrupt centralized system with one even more centralized and ruthless, but rather on the model of the American Revolution, which replaced a centralized system run for the benefit of various institutional structures with a radical Idea, that of sovereignty residing in the ‘People’ on an individual basis. The Romantic Healthcare revolution replaces a system of ‘principals’, an oppressive and suppressive drug and death-dealing empire, ruling by fiat and decree, with a system of ‘principles’, a health science grounded in Life that establishes and safeguards individual health sovereignty within a rational system of laws that derive from ‘Nature and Nature’s God’.
The Old Order lays claim to be the sole sovereign power when it comes to healthcare. It is highly autocratic, strongly institutionalized, heavily regulated and closely controlling. It is based on the belief that the ‘medical doctor knows best’ and that he, joined to and allied with the policing power of the state, has jurisdiction to impose the dictates and doctrines of allopathic medicine on all within its purview.
Romantic Healthcare is founded on an entirely new, even radical idea: the individual is sovereign when it comes to decisions as to healthcare.
All such sovereign individuals are equal under the law - the laws of ‘Nature and Nature’s God’ apply and operate equally. The object and effect of these laws is ‘life and life more abundant’, ‘the perfect law of liberty’ and the joy and peace that ‘passeth all understanding’. The Healthcare Declaration of Independence. When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the healthcare bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Healthcare is instituted among Men, deriving its just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Healthcare becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Healthcare system, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Healthcare long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such system of Healthcare, and to provide new Guards for their future health. — Such has been the patient sufferance; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former System of Healthcare. The history of the present Rule of Allopathic Medicine is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny in and over all healthcare matters.
We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Health, ensure domestic Vitality, provide for the common Defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of Health.
The constitutional foundation of the United States of Health:
1. Health is a positive state of being; it is not simply an absence of symptoms. Health constitutes optimal vital operations. Optimal vital operations result from and are maintained by resonant stimuli (excitants and incitants), qualitatively and quantitatively, acting on the potential for life within each organism (excitability and incitability quotient). The optimal level and degree of vitality allows for optimal activity at the physical level and psychological level in the form of goal-oriented, meaningful, creative work and play in accordance with each person’s unique purpose in life.
2. Stressors, i.e., non-resonant stimuli and specific impediments (shocks, nutritional depletion, toxic accretion, inherited factors, external or internal injunctions against life-affirming actions), created imbalances that reduce optimal vital operations, as they both distort these operations and divert the proper use of nutrients and energy.
3. Imbalances are always countered by the organism’s innate restorative power. This restorative power has two sides, functioning as an antithetical unity: a sustentive power and a generative power. The vital power seeks everywhere and always to restore and maintain balance (homeostasis and palingenesis). 4. Restoration of optimal vital operations is either successful or if not, the vital power adapts and finds the next-best alternative (adaptation). The adaptation may appear ‘successful’ (normal), but it is an altered level of vital operation and energy (hyper- or hypo-sthenia). 5. Adaptation is not stable and continued stress creates further imbalances. Eventually, the increasingly sub-optimal vital operations weaken the sustentive power to the point that a specific anomalous state of disorder emerges.
6. Disorder breaks through the ‘successful’ adaptation in the form of manifest physical and psychological suffering (pathology): symptoms (altered feelings, functions, sensations), signs, behaviors and occurrents (‘How all occasions do inform against me’ - Hamlet). 7. Remediation of disorders involve correcting the particular imbalances underlying them - nutritional distortion and toxic accretion. Nutritional depletion or excess must be remedied by nutritional repletion; toxic accretion must be remedied by toxic depletion, using the natural law of opposites - a deficiency or excess corrected by a return to optimum.
8. Disease results from sustained and significant disorders that sufficiently weaken the sustentive power resulting in a susceptibility by the generative power to being penetrated by certain pathogenic agents as well as shocks and traumas, engendering a pathic or chronic state of illness.
9. Disease is degenerative. This further imbalances and weakens vital operations, and results in further disorders. These secondary disorders can cause additional susceptibility to disease, etc.
10. Remediation of disease requires the use of specific remedial agents prepared and administered using the natural law of similar resonance to the disease cause (optimal dose and renewable potencies). 11. Aging is the loss of vital energy during vital operations and places a biological limit on the physical longevity of the organism. In health, one ages gracefully.
12. Pre-mature aging is loss of vital energy beyond natural biological attrition.
13. Natural therapeutics, or the restorative power of the organism, is the basis for any and all lawful therapeutic interventions. The innate, natural healing power cannot restore all disorders and few, if any chronic diseases. A complex condition consisting of disorders and diseases, particularly arising from man’s meddlesome intervention in nature (‘diseases of civilization’) develops over time and goes beyond the capacity of natural therapeutics.
14. Arteful therapeutics, or specific intervention to aid the natural restorative power, must be rational and systematic, based on an understanding of the nature of vital operations in health, of the reasons for/causes of divergences from health, and of the laws of remediation and the remedial agents available to correct different causal factors.
15. Biological individuality (as evidenced in our unique DNA) coupled with the commonality of biological operations (there are only so many ways an organism can act) means that a. the same cause can produce different symptoms in different people; b. the same symptoms in different people can be due to different causes. 16. Biological commonality interacting with biological individuality results in various typologies: blood, glandular, metabolic. The various typologies in a given case constitute the biological individuality.
17. Typological treatment is the only known rational approach to address illness in the face of biological individuality. There can be no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to any case. 18. Prevention is the ‘royal road’ of Healthcare. 19. Causal treatment is the ‘royal road’ of therapeutics.
20. Symptomological (semiotic) treatment is seldom justified (homeopathic prescribing is a possible exception that proves the rule). In most cases, there can be no common treatment for a labelled condition (e.g., arthritis) based on an arbitrary grouping of common symptoms. This label is purely descriptive, and only ‘useful’ to select agents to suppress certain symptoms. Suppression of symptoms is not curative, and can cause further imbalances à disorders à susceptibilities à diseases à imbalances à disorders, etc. However, where a certain condition is embedded in the physical due to its foundation in genetic mutation(s), a specific treatment approach based on the specific nutritional distortions it causes is justified.
21. Palliation is rational in certain limited situations, where the circumstances threaten to overwhelm the capacity of the restorative power.
